Welcome to Project GreenHands

Project GreenHands (PGH) is the environmental initiative of Isha Foundation that aims to increase the green cover of the state of Tamil Nadu to the required 33% green cover by planting 114 million trees.

Launched on World Environment Day, June 5th 2004, as a grass roots ecological initiative, the project has till date planted more than 19.9 million saplings in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry by involving more than 1.5 million volunteers.

We invite you to join hands with Project GreenHands to plant trees, to get involved and to contribute for a greener tomorrow.

Our Vision To inspire people to plant trees, develop a culture of care towards the environment and make them realize their inevitable dependency on nature.

Our Mission is to increase the green cover of Tamil Nadu by 10% in order to reverse desertification, reduce soil erosion, restore self-sufficiency, recreate sustainability and survive climate change.

Through education, mass people participation, agro-forestry initiatives and most importantly community participation, we aim to provide the necessary inspiration and support to for planting 114 million trees in the shortest span possible.
